Working for the first time with Tinkercad was a steep learning curve. It definitely is something that you have to sit down and take the time to learn. I like that the app has step by step tutorials that you literally just drag and drop into the templates. For a first time user, it is exciting to see that you can actually build something and then have the potential to 3D print it. I would love to see this technology in the library as it would invite many, if not all, students into my space. The more we can supply our students with this type of "maker" thinking, the more they will visit and learn more about what is offered in our learning commons. I came across a great blog by Nathan Sekinger, National Board Certified Librarian and Teacher in Fredericksburg, VA and VAASL’s Librarian of the Year. He explains why 3D printing and design has been a huge success in his library and also offers examples of what he has successfully done in the past. Below is a sample of my simple project on Tinkercad.
